Support the Auckland Zoo Conservation Fund

Sustaining and conserving wild populations of threatened species and their habitats, and finding ways to reduce our impact on the environment, is vital. All lives, and the survival of this planet, depends on it!

Auckland Zoo implements a strong environmental policy on site to reduce its environmental footprint, and, as is central to our role, we are actively involved in a diverse range of conservation projects, some of which also involve research by our vet staff at the New Zealand Centre for Conservation Medicine.

Like zoos throughout the world, we have evolved hugely in recent times, and today play a direct role in helping conserve wild populations - reflecting the World Association of Zoos & Aquariums (WAZA) World Conservation Strategy.

Since 2000, our Auckland Zoo Conservation Fund has worked in partnership and collaboration with many other organisations and individuals, to support in situ (field) conservation projects, both here in New Zealand, and overseas. This support is to wild populations is continuing to grow.

The Zoo's conservation efforts are lead by the Auckland Zoo Conservation Office - comprised of a Conservation Officer, Conservation Committee, and an external fundraiser. With Zoo management, they manage the Auckland Zoo Conservation Fund (AZCF). The Conservation Office has made the commitment that 100% of all contributions to the AZCF will be directed towards field conservation, with all administration costs being met by the Zoo contribution.
