New Zealand Centre for Conservation Medicine (NZCCM)This state-of-the-art facility is the first national centre for conservation medicine in the world, and is a place where visitors can view our veterinary team in action!
To maximise viewing, cameras above the operating tables in both the treatment room and the operating theatre relay action (when appropriate) onto a large screen in the gallery.
Conservation medicine is a practice that addresses the connections between our (human) health, with the health of animals and the environment. In addition to serving the Zoo's animals, the NZCCM strongly focuses on research, diagnostic work, and specialised teaching. It sees the Zoo progress its already key national role in native species conservation, and national bio security. ![]() Through the looking glass...
NZCCM encounters occur every Monday and Tuesday at 1.30 pm in our public gallery. These encounters allow for questions and answers with Auckland Zoo vets about the work and research conducted at the NZCCM. ![]() |
