Office
- The office paper we use carries the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) Chain of Custody certification. The mill that the paper comes from is ISO14001 certified (like Auckland Zoo), meaning they are managing their environmental impacts.
- Used office paper is shredded and used for orangutan bedding. After the orangutans have slept on it, it is composted.
- We are also helping other business's recycle their paper - we accept used paper, shred it for orangutan bedding and then compost it.
- Ink cartridges are recycled.
- Combining printer, copier and scanning functions into single machines to reduce electricity consumption and allow double sided printings.
- We encourage a 'paperless office' - the majority of communications sent from the Zoo is done electronically as opposed to paper and envelopes, and signatures on our emails encourage people not to print emails.
- Most of our forms are generated, transmitted and stored electronically.
- Our office has a battery collection box for our staff, which is then taken to Hazchem for correct disposal.
